In preparation for the upcoming Tour de Cure, benefitting The American Diabetes Association, Saddle Cycle has started a free indoor cycling training program. The program was dreamed up by Saddle Cycle owner Rod Nagy, who felt that riders entering into the 30-mile Tour De Cure race would be in need of a spring training refresher program, geared towards getting cyclists back in shape after winter downtime. The Saddle Cycle program takes place every Saturday leading up to the June 4 race.

Following is an interview with Rod:

Does Saddle offer this every Saturday?

Yes!  We will offer a training ride each Saturday, and will add an extra during the week as the regular schedule permits – right up to the weekend of the ride.

How did this all come about?

The tour is all about fun rides for anyone who can ride a bike.  This will be one of – if not the first – time many people get on their bikes as the ride is pretty early in the season. Last year I noticed some people struggling a bit, simply because they weren’t in good condition. I decided to offer free conditioning classes to support those that were supporting the tour.  Bike riding is a fun activity, made all the more so when you’re fit enough to enjoy the scenery!

How does one register? Or is it too late? Do you have to ride every Saturday, or just once? Or whenever one wants?

Anyone who registers at the Tour de Cure website: www.diabetes.org/buffalotour can ride for free, and can come to any or all of the Saturday training classes, however its limited to the first 28.  Bikes can be booked online.  In addition, Saddle is giving each person 12 free rides that they can use for any class on the schedule if the Saturday dates aren’t convenient. After each class, participants will get an email telling them how many miles they rode, how many calories they burned, their average RPM and more.

Do you have to be signed up for the race to participate in the free Saddle training rides?

Yes – this is specifically for those enrolled to ride in any of this year’s offerings.  Distances of 6, 18, 30, 65 and 100 miles are available to make it something that just about anyone can do.  And if you’re not a biker or don’t have a bike, there are even some walking options.  so, even if someone want to support the cause by walking, they are welcome to come train with us too!

What are the other dates and times?

Right now we’re only scheduled for Saturday mornings.  However, if the need arises, we’re prepared to offer an additional class each week.  Dates and times TBD.

Do people have to pre register?

Yes.  Once they register at the tour website (above) they will receive an email with a promotion code.  Then they simply follow a few simple instructions and they’re set to ride!

When is the next session?

Saturday, April 9, 2016 | 10:30 a.m.

Saddle Cycling | 1094 Hertel Avenue | Buffalo, NY 14216
