D’Youville College is moving forward with its $20 million HUB project on the south side of Connecticut Street, between Plymouth and West avenues. D’Youville will use the three-story, 50,000 sq.ft. facility to provide inter-professional education, certificate and degree programs to students and health care professionals. The HUB will also enhance the delivery of coordinated, multi-disciplinary healthcare services to the West Side in the proposed clinic.
The facility will include a community clinic with 20 exam rooms, a medically-oriented gym, a workforce development center, a virtual simulation training center, campus event center, classrooms, co-working spaces, and a 25-seat café space on the first floor.
Two existing one-story buildings on the site would be demolished: an approximately 4,500 square foot circa-1950 building used by D’Youville at 295 Connecticut and a 576 sq.ft. circa-1945 building formerly used as an autobody/service station.
CannonDesign is project architect. “D’Youville has a bold and exciting vision for the Health Professions Hub, and we couldn’t be more excited to now help bring this vision to life,” said Michael Tunkey, Principal at CannonDesign. “The project will help D’Youville better connect people, students to jobs, and its surrounding community to a brighter future. The Hub will be a transformative space for the City of Buffalo that amplifies D’Youville’s reach globally.”
The college is requesting a rezoning of the project site to “D-E” (Educational Campus). The properties are owned and operated by D’Youville for support and related parking purposes, and to restrict those properties pursuant to a planned unit development or “PUD” designed to respect the surrounding community.
In addition, the project entails remediation of the site. Work on the HUB is expected to be completed late next year.
